FINAL ARTWORK
3/4 view of octopus outcry

TITLE: OCTOPUS OUTCRY

Rationale

"Octopus Outcry" is an artistic concept crafted to resonate with UN SDG 14's aim to conserve and sustainably utilize the oceans, seas, and marine resources. It serves as a visual metaphor for the plight of marine life entangled in the surge of oceanic plastic waste. Utilizing play dough for the octopus and incorporating everyday waste materials like straws and bubble wrap, the piece speaks to the invasion of these pollutants in marine habitats as well as showing how I was inspired by the washed ashore work where sculptures are made from the trash found in the seas.

Design principles evident include emphasis on the central octopus figure, movement through the sprawling tentacles, and texture contrast between the clay, plastic, and the trash bag background. This artwork aims to confront the viewer with the urgent need for action against marine pollution

REFLECTION

What have I learnt in this module?
I learnt the importance in learning and understanding each design principle as well as learning how to apply it appropriately to design in order to create visually interesting work

What did I enjoy the most?
I enjoyed making the sculpture and finding ways to create variety and movement in my artwork. I also enjoyed creating something physical as I have not had the opportunity to do that so far in this degree.

What did I not enjoy the most?
I did not enjoy watching the lectures to some degree as I tend to lose interest when watching lecture videos. I also tend to not enjoy the process of documenting my design process on the eportfolio but I do understand and appreciate the need for it as whoever reads my work can follow and understand my design process.

What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I have noticed that I get my good ideas at night and work best at night. I also learnt that I enjoy making physical artwork and challenging myself in doing something different.

What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
I feel like I now enjoy experimenting more and not limiting myself and doing easier artworks but actually exploring other mediums and I have noticed that I still tend to procrastinate to some degree and I need to improve in that area.

What could be improved in this module?
I think in person lectures would be better or finding a way to learn the design principles in a more interactive way to ensure a good comprehension of the principles.
