Final video animation: OBESITY IN MALAYSIA

WEEK 1

In this first week I was not in Malaysia at the time as my flight got cancelled from Back home and I had to book a new flight but I watched the lecture Online and got briefed on what our Final Project would be about. We formed a group of 7. I was updated that a discussion was had about some social issues which we felt were quite prominent and showed the ideas to the lecturer. We then voted on the topic Obesity in Malaysia , specifically with a strong focus on healthy eating so as to reduce the obesity rate in Malaysia and provide guidance to the people of Malaysia. We took a vote and made Samiha our group leader. We then separated the work and I was responsible for the Video Objective.

WEEK 2

We completed our slides and made improvements to them from the feedback we received From Mr Shamsul.

Feedback for Slides

WEEK 3

In this week we looked for visual references of different infographic videos that could give us inspiration for what we want our final animation to look like. Ryoma and myself made a moodboard and art direction after the compilation of references.

    Moodboard

We then had a meeting to discuss our video idea and came up with several ideas and settled on an idea I had which was to have video game theme since that is what our target audience would relate to easily.

Potential ideas

Our final story line was "A kid that sits to play a video game where he gets to choose in each level of the 4 levels (Drink, Main meal, Sank, Dessert) between healthy and unhealthy options. As he chooses the healthy option he gains more on his energy bar and speed bar and then when he reaches to the end of the game he wins at the big beast level since he chose healthier options all along. Then we show some facts and statistics that we used in the slides in the safe room that the character enters."

WEEK 4

We then continued developing the script and decided to change the moodboard since we now have a video game theme. We also started working on the storyboard and 3 people worked on that.

WEEK 5

In this week we looked for vector images for Saif to use in the animation process.

Vector images that will be used.

WEEK 6

In this week Saif worked on the animation. I and other teammates looked for sounds to be used for the animation according to the script and storyboard.

Sound I collected

We also redid our presentation slides to match the aesthetic of the animation

New slide design: Obesity in Malaysia.

WEEK 7

In this week Saif finished making the animation and Marsya and Samiha put in all the clips as well as adding transitions between each scene while I added the sound effects and music on Capcut.

Adding sounds

This is our final outcome

REFLECTION

I found this assignment to be quite interesting and I actually enjoyed seeing and learning how to manage time and help where I can. I found myself liking the group I had because everyone carried their weight.

I learnt about the prevalence of obesity in Malaysia and the rate at which its growing as well as ways to prevent it. I enjoyed editing and adding sounds to the video and really bringing the video to life. I find myself enjoying editing and want to learn more about it and really up my game. I found that animations are more engaging and allow for better digestion of information. I also found that it is important to know your target audience and cater to what they would like and what would keep them engaged.
