LECTURES

WEEK 1: Briefing of module and introduction to experiential design

INSTRUCTIONS

TASK 1: Trending Experience

Students are given series of exercises that explore the current, popular trend in the market to give them better understanding of the technologies and the knowledge in creating content for those technologies.

Students will conduct research and experiment to find out
features and limitation which will later allows them to make decision on
which technologies they should proceed with in their final project.

WEEK 1:

we were tasked to Imagine the scenario in either of the two places.

between a gym, kitchen or shopping mall.

what would the AR experience be
what extended visualization can be useful?
What do you want the user to feel?

Scenario: Gym

Problem statement

As a woman, I’ve noticed that my energy levels, strength, and endurance vary significantly throughout my menstrual cycle, making it challenging to maintain consistent performance in the gym. On some days, lifting the same dumbbell weights feels much harder than usual, while on other days, I feel strong enough to increase the weight. Without a clear understanding of how my cycle affects my workouts, it’s difficult to adjust my routine to match my body’s changing needs. This inconsistency often leads to frustration and makes it hard for me to track my progress effectively over time.

what would the AR experience be?

The Interactive Weight Tracking AR Prototype would enhance workouts by providing an immersive experience that integrates real-time feedback and personalized recommendations based on the user’s menstrual cycle. Users engage with the AR interface through glasses or a mobile device, showing correct form, optimal weight suggestions, and progress tracking.

what extended visualization can be useful?

Cycle Phase Visuals: Icons representing energy levels and strength expectations during the menstrual cycle.
Interactive Feedback: Visual alerts celebrating achievements or prompting adjustments.

What do you want the user to feel?

Empowerment: Users feel in control of their workouts.
Confidence: Improved safety and effectiveness in exercising.
Motivation: Inspiring visuals and progress tracking encourage commitment.
Understanding: Greater awareness of how the menstrual cycle impacts physical performance.
Connection: A sense of engagement in a tailored fitness journey that respects individual needs.

WEEK 2: Journey Map

In week 2 we had a lecture on user journey maps then we were given a group activity to create a user journey map of a place of our choice. The user journey map would include gain points, pain points and giving AR solutions.

EXERCISE 1: UNITY BASED MAKER BASED AR EXPERIENCE

I decided to use Patrick star as my image and continued the tutorial

This was actually really funny as it was just the shutter that was covering the camera but this stressed me out for a couple of days

EXERCISE 3: MARKERLESS AR EXPERIENCE

I had difficulty installing Mac on my laptop and got very frustrated.

REFLECTIONS

WEEK 1

Experience

When I was introduced to the module I felt a bit overwhelmed because it looked quite complex. I also enjoyed looking at the 3d dinosaur and my mind was opened to whole new world of UI/UX.

Observations

Doing the exercise was fairly simple. I really liked the idea I came up with for the gym

Findings

I found that after doing the first exercise I grasped the idea of what augmented reality really is.

WEEK 2

Experience

I found week 2 to be fun as we had a group exercise and my memory for user journey maps was jogged. I honestly struggled to grasp the tutorial in class. I felt like everything was happening really fast and quickly lagged behind and felt discouraged but I was happy that there was a video tutorial I could follow.

Observations

I observed that it takes me sometime to learn new software. I observed that I actually enjoy doing presentations as some of my group

Findings

I found that I need to set extra time aside for me to truly understand what exactly I am doing.

WEEK 3

Experience
I fell quite sick in week 3 and this caused me to quickly fall behind as I had to miss class so work started piling up but I kept an optimistic attitude and asked a friend for assistance.

Observation
Falling sick doing the semester really disturbs workflow but it is important to ask for help and not struggle alone

Findings

WEEK 4: to be added
