Examples of good illustrated type

STEP 1`: Research and inspiration
STEP 2 : Sketches
STEP 3: Digitalising ideas

WORDS THAT PICTIONARY GENERATOR GAVE ME: MEAT LOAF
This was my first selection of words I never thought I would be able to make an interesting illustration but I decided to stick with it

STEP 1 : Research and inspiration

I did research on meat patterns and different pieces of beef that I could use in my illustration I found the T bone an interesting part I could as I could replace the "T" in meat with a T bone instead .

I researched the shape of  a loaf and slices and see how I would fuse the meat and loaf together . I did not want to go with the generic idea of just a regular meat loaf.

STEP 2 : Sketches
I tried having the word Meat in the loaf and each letter of "MEAT" would be different types of meat like fish, chicken, sausage but I never liked the idea much. When I sketched out the "LOAF" I liked the idea of having the "O" being a loaf with meat in the center so that there is relation to the word "MEAT" as at this point I decided to illustrate the words separately.

STEP 3: Digitalising ideas

I started by Typing out the word "MEAT" then  modifying it by using the pencil tool and making it look similar to the reference picture as it shows in the image above. I added a bone in the "A" to make it look more like meat. I Then added a meat pattern as a swatch then inflated "MEAT" in 3d effects.
I repeating the process for "LOAF" by starting out by typing out the word in myriad pro and modifying it using the pen tool.

Progression of making the Loaf
FIRST ATTEMPT

I tried making the loaf this way by using a rectangle and two circles then modifying it and it did not go as planned so I looked for a youtube video on how to make a 3D loaf as I was really intrigued by the 3D effects that we had learnt about in Week 5.
I watched this video - 3D loaf then tried again by using an ellipse and a trapezium shape and it looked much more realistic

I then added the t-bone and extruded the loaf in 3D effects.

FINAL OUTCOME
OUTLINE

REFLECTION

I found this task slightly difficult as I was still familiarising myself with the tools in Adobe Illustrator. I found that experimenting with different tools in illustrator allows for more ideas to form and the quality of work improves. I really liked the outcome of my work and I am excited to learn how to improve my work and learn more tools that could make my process of digitalisng work easier.
