Week 2: Intro to composition

 LECTURE

Lecture Note Week 2: INTRODUCTION TO COMPOSITION

•A strong focal point is essential for a good composition as it directs the viewer's attention to the important elements of the design first.

•Scale and hierarchy can be used to communicate the importance of elements in the composition.

•Asymmetrical balance can be achieved by considering the "weight" of each element.

•White space, also known as "empty space," helps balance the main focus of a composition and enhances clarity.

•Attention to detail is important in creating successful web experiences and software products.

Rule of Thirds in Digital Photography and Design

•The Rule of Thirds is the process of dividing an image into thirds, using two horizontal and two vertical lines.

•Placing important elements at the intersection points of these lines produces a more natural image.

•It is suggested to position any horizon on either the top or bottom horizontal line.

•The Rule of Thirds is used in designing digital products and web experiences.

•The Rule of Thirds is a principle for good design according to Dieter Rams.

•Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text but has roots in classical Latin literature.

•The text also mentions a sale of 50% off on digital photography and imaging products.

Composition Techniques in Digital Photography and Design

•The Rule of Thirds is a composition technique that creates visually pleasing images by using natural eye movement, negative space, and subject-background dialogue.

•The Golden Ratio, a mathematical ratio commonly found in nature, creates organic and aesthetically pleasing compositions when applied to design.

•The Golden Ratio in design focuses on creating harmony and proportion for a sense of beauty.

•The Golden Ratio can be used as a guideline for determining layout dimensions, such as in mobile UI design.

•Utilizing composition techniques like the Rule of Thirds and the Golden Ratio can enhance the visual appeal of photography and design.

Notes on Digital Photography and Imaging

•The Golden Ratio is a concept in photography and design that involves creating pleasing and balanced compositions. It is mentioned in various texts, including "Golden Ratio FELD eiß de 4000 hat Last" and "Golden Ratio Example from previous student work."

•Squarespace is a website platform that allows individuals to create their own websites. It is mentioned in the text "Make it beautiful. Make your own website."

•The importance of shot framing and cropping is discussed in the text "SHOT FRAMING THE ULTIMATE GUIDE."

•The reference "10 rules of composition" is mentioned but not elaborated upon.

TUTORIAL

PRACTICAL

Step 1: Remove design components

Look through old magazines and other printed materials for any intriguing illustrations.
Cut out the chosen shapes from the images.
To collect your cut-out design components, repeat the steps.

Pre-compositing is step two.

1. Select a captivating background picture
2. Begin compositing the removed design components.
3. Experiment with layer placement and composition.

COMPOSITION 1:

In this composition I had 10 layers and the theme was a Rock theme. I used symmetry for my composition shown by the two hands. I also used different textures to make the composition more interesting. I placed the drum in the chest of the main subject to the love for music and rock as drums are used in the making of rock music. I added Disk behind the man as well by adding a texture like this I was trying to add on to the theme.
COMPOSITION 2

I have 11 layers in the composition I used pictures from deadpool and a rock magazine that I found at Am corp mall. This is a very random composition though it does tell a story of how most times when people are being punched around in life most people just walk away or find pride that they are not the punching bags in life. I think adding the triangle cutout to depict deadpool being pierced is an interesting addition.

COMPOSITION 3:

I went for an empowering composition here which is shown by the mans stance I used different patterns make it more interesting to look at.

FINAL COMPOSITION

I decided to go with this as my final composition because I felt like it has good composition and there is good amount white space and the focal point is clear as well as the composition telling a story.

REFLECTION

WEEK 2: creating the different  collage compositions was very interesting and fun , at first I had a lot of elements and Mr Fauzi advised me to just select about 5 and work with that in the end I think my compositions were more simple and flowed better
