Task 1: Vormator challenge

LECTURES

WEEK 1 : Briefing of module and assignment breakdown. we also played Bezier game to learn the pen tool for Adobe illustrator it was quite fun and we practiced a bit. At first I was confused but I eventually got the hang of it and ended up with a score of 16 nodes left

WEEK 2: Mr Hafiz showed us simpler ways to draw the vormator shapes using pen tool and curvature tool. He also spoke about the different shapes of characters and proportions

WEEK 3:Had no classes this week but watched videos on assigning different colours using shape builder tool and blending mode and importing swatches and gradient and adjusting colours dynamically

STEP 1 : lookin for inspiration

For my character I was leaning towards a villainous character. I wanted to have the character have tentacles of some sort as well as alien looking as I also love alien themed movies like aliens in the attic ,a quiet place , monsters vs aliens and so on.

Initial vormator

So for this character I used some of the knowledge I learnt in class when Mr. Hafiz taught us about proportions of the body and so I made this character have his body be the height of his head times 7 but had his legs appear to be long as I never had him wear pants like Squidward. I felt that having several limbs (tentacles) would add to the creepy evil vibe I am trying to portray as when anything has several legs e.g a centipede they tend to be scary looking. I became ambitious and wanted to design a pet for this character so I started with sketches and I ended up liking the design of the pet more and went with that instead.

STEP 2 : Sketches

REFLECTIONS

I enjoyed my first task I find this module the most interesting module out of all the other modules I am doing this semester. The fact that I was able to create such a dynamic character whilst being limited to a certain number of shapes as well as not being able to manipulate the shapes was quite intriguing this sparked my interest and makes me excited to learn what else I can achieve with the new skills I will learn as the semester progresses
