PUBLIC LECTURE : SERVICE DESIGN
I attended a lecture on service deign by Prof. Joyce Yee and I got insight on how improve the customer experience for a more seamless journey with whatever service they require. I learnt the importance of service design and the steps that are taken from the exploration to Ideation to reflection then to implematation

Week 2 : we brought materials as a class to make our collages and we proceeded to veiw lecture slides on how to come up with good composition by using rules of third and golden ration. We also learnt about framing and cropping through a youtube video

WEEK 3:Mr fauzi showed us how to use pen tool, lasso tool and Layering to make a digital collage.we also uploaded our final compositions on google classroom and took a group photo of our collages

INSTRUCTION:

In week 1 I was assigned to pick 3 of my favourite graphic design compositions and explain why I like each design so below I have picked very unique compositions each with its own theme

DESIGN #1

CYBER WIRED BRAIN
DESCRIPTION: This composition shows clones of a person with cables connected to one brain.

The reason I chose this piece is because I like the cool colours that we’re used and how the red lighting complimented the piece. The floating brains captivated me immediately as they depict a halo which is very interesting and the interpretation I have of this halo is that it symbolizes divinity as halos are normally associated with angels with that said the concept of this composition may be seen as playing God as it seems like a state of consciousness and intelligence is being transferred to each clone (just how God gives us life and intelligence) through a cybernatic interface this in turn may allow the clones to have identities and so someone may be able to experience multiple live as a clone. This hypothetical future of technology would revolutionize the way humans live, work and interact with each other and with this major technological advancement there are also ethical concerns that may coincide and this raises questions about the nature of identity and what it truly means to be human and so this advancement of technology has always been an interest of mine and that is why I found this composition so fascinating. I also like blue background that was used as it does not draw much attention and I can focus more on the idea that is trying to be evoked through the clones. I also found the expressions on each clone to be riveting as they seem to be in immense pain as they receive whatever information it is being transferred through the cables .I also like the monochromatic image that was used

DESIGN #2
HOPELESS MEMORIES BY ROBBIE VONN

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/1002684304518524832/

DESCRIPTION: Cinematic, evocative, and wickedly experimental, Robbie Vonn's debut EP “Hopeless Memories” ranges from the most sonic elements of glitchy electronic textures to the purest sound of cellos and flamenco guitars. The concept behind the EP is captured on the artwork, where a head is broken into pieces representing memories, fading away and sorrow, and from which a little girl arises as a reminder of strength and endurance. A glowing butterfly –title of the first track– illuminate the broken pieces with light and hope.

I’m intrigued by this design as this piece reminds me of myself in my healing journey. The floating head is broken into many pieces but in that brokeness there was growth which is represented by the vegetation that the girl is on .I love the 3 dimensional look to it the detail in the piece is phenomenal as well as the lighting in the piece. I love how the designer here placed shadows to make the piece look more resalistic . The background is a sunset which adds on the tranquility that the composition brings out.

DESIGN #3

THE UNTITLED BY HEIKO KLUG

DESCRIPTION: A heart fueled by gas tanks

The heart is a vital organ in our body and it pumps blood to every part of the body and it works tirelessly to keep us alive and any malfunction is life threatening , now with a heart being pumped by gas which is a very dangerous combustible material how much more lethal could that be . This atypical concept shown in the picture was very striking to me . The detail in the picture was also very interesting to me because the more  looked at the picture the more I saw little cables hanging from the gas tanks and the metal connectors on the arteries and veins of the heart . The spider webs also shown that the machinery there is old and that maybe the heart has not been functional for some time which to me  symbolises the state of the hearts of this generation and how numb they are and so with that this piece really spoke to me as I am an advocate for mental health and the mental state we are in all stems to what happens in our hearts.

DESIGN #4

DESCRIPTION: an african women with an afro made of trees

The image of an Afro made of trees is truly eye catching. At first glance, it's a striking visual that commands attention. But beyond its aesthetic appeal, this image is a powerful symbol of our connection to the environment and the need for greater environmental awareness.

What I love about this piece is the way it brings together two seemingly disparate elements - the Afro hairstyle and the natural world - and creates something entirely new and inspiring. It challenges us to see beyond the boundaries of our individual identities and to embrace the interconnectedness of all life on Earth.

As someone who is passionate about african culture and enviromental awareness, the tree Afro speaks to me on a deep level. It reminds me of the importance of preserving the planet. I also find the work quite intriguing as I am African and have an afro and the resemblance of the leaves on the trees to the hair texture of african women such as myself is quite similar.

TASK 2: I was instructed to choose and identify collage design elements to be cut out and compose it into my own concept and story and have 3 composition ideas for it

PRE-COMPOSITION #1

PRECOMPOSITION #2

                                                                   Pre-composition #2
PRECOMPOSITION #3

                                                                Pre-composition #3

WEEK 3: DIGITAL COLLAGE

COMPOSITION 1

FEEDBACK
WEEK 1:
WEEK

REFLECTION
WEEK 1:In the beginning I struggled picking which ideas I wanted exactly and also found it a bit difficult to describe exactly why I liked them but as I sat and looked more at the small details of each composition I ended up managing to put how I felt about each piece into words

WEEK 2: creating the different  collage compositions was very interesting and fun . at first I had alot of elements and Mr Fauzi advised me to just select about 5 and work with that in the end I think my compositions were more simple and flowed better

WEEK 3: Using photoshop was difficult in the beginning but with the tutorials Mr fauzi gave it was way easier and experimenting with the different tools was interesting I enjoyed developing different compositions and really being creative with each. I used shadows to make collage #3 look more realistic. Using the pen tool to cut out the people was time consuming but I know eventually ill get the hand of it.
